Who was the very first patient to book an appointment on ZocDoc? Who was the first to recommend us to a friend or a doctor? How many patients saw improvements we could make and took the time to give us thoughtful feedback? How many patients asked for online Check-In – which we built, and which is now one of our most beloved products? But above all, ZocDoc exists because patients believed in us. We had a focused and complementary founding team many of our first hires have grown into talented leaders we have top-tier investors who gave us crucial advice and so on. It’s true that some early advantages worked in our favor. Many startups don’t ever get traction, and healthcare is an especially difficult field to work in. That’s why, as the eighth anniversary of ZocDoc’s founding approached, I wanted to give our team the opportunity to focus more directly on the patients – and show them how grateful we are. And while reading patient feedback each morning is one of the best parts of my day, it isn’t the longest. But it’s not the same as working with patients directly. Everything we do serves that purpose – from product development and operations to hiring and training.Īre those things vital to the company’s growth? Absolutely. Our mission is to give power to the patient, and our number one core value is Patients First. But in the hustle and bustle of running a business, it’s important to step back sometimes and think about the most important part of our work: the patients we serve. It’s a thrill, and an extremely gratifying part of what we do. As a high-growth company, ZocDoc is always adapting our efforts and developing new capacities.
